(Page edited for convenience) This page is not exactly the way it appears in this 1972 book, and the food that I have made from it is actually pretty good but the photos...the photos are earth-shattering.
And yet, judging from the results from the rest of the book, possibly quite edible. Would I eat it? Only as a joke or alone. Recipes like fruit ambrosia just leave me staring and this thing...look; I don't even need to be friends with a woman who would serve this at a party.
I think the concept of gelatin molds is what appeals to me ... food as art, in that futuristic space-age 50s way. Your entire meal, available as individual, self-contained colorful slices from the plated, shaped and wobbly mold as it is passed around. It just seems so optimistic to me, somehow.
