Sept 1942 Better Homes and Gardens. This year it seems to have been very popular to stuff food inside of other food.

Sept 1942 Better Homes and Gardens recipe section. "Double-deckers -- all dolled up with bacon girdles." Doesn't look all that different from what you'd see today, albeit not in a healthy living magazine.
