Lardy cake and more

Thought these would fit well with this group. Most are from a 1960's recipe box I got at a thrift store. Definately unique anyway. I can't say I have got quite brave enough to try them yet however.

Also a 80's recipe for buttery cinnimon cake... which you can tell I have used many many times. It comes out great. It's from the Better Homes and Gardens All Time Favorite Cake and Cookie Recipes book.

You know, sometimes I wonder how much recipes could be improved if people just thought a bit more about what they were naming them. I mean, "Lardy Cake"? REALLY? Noooooo...even if it does sound like it'd just be a good, buttery yeast-bread concoction, all told.

And they're not kidding about being firm when grasping nettles. Been there, done that, ow.

I noticed the lard, but the way they're using it, it's mostly going to melt into the bread and simply make a buttery-rich filling sort of like on a sticky bun, I think. Naming it something else would've made it a lot more appetizing!

Interesting. I always thought that Lardy Cake was a peculiarly British thing - a regional one at that! It's not something you see very much these days, but I've heard my Mum wax lyrical about it. I ought to print this off for her!

That's ... a lot of lard, lol. I'm sure vegetable shortening would work just as well.

Nettle is a plant. It's used medicinally as well as for food.

Usually when I think of nettle I think of the Hans Christian Andersen story "The Wild Swans", where the princess had to weave coats of nettle to free her brothers, who had been turned into swans.

depending where you live, we might be in the same weather boat! i live in NE Ohio and yesterday was a lovely 96 out! it's a wee cooler today but the humidity is sky high!

this sounds like a great fall day recipe though!

I find it humorous that this post comes *after* the vegetarian poster looking for substitutes for lard. :)
